Calm Florida water at dawn

When worry starts running the calendar.

Anxiety deserves a full history: body symptoms, avoidance, sleep, and the conditions that can mimic it.

Worry is part of being human. It helps you prepare for a deadline, a medical test, or a loved one who is late coming home. Anxiety becomes a clinical concern when it takes more time than the situation requires, when the body stays on high alert, or when you start organizing your life around avoiding the feeling. People in Florida often search for help after months of poor sleep, tension headaches, racing thoughts in the car, or a sense that they cannot turn their mind off.

SteadyMind Psychiatry offers telehealth psychiatric evaluation for anxiety across Florida. You must be in Florida during the visit. Alexeis Menendez-Suarez, PMHNP-BC, provides adult care in English and Spanish. Rosemarie A. Zoet, PMHNP-BC, sees adults in English, self-pay, with insurance coming soon. Both can diagnose and manage medication when it is clinically appropriate. No diagnosis or specific medication is guaranteed.

More than “just stress”

Anxiety can be quiet or loud. Some people describe a constant background hum of what-if thinking. Others have sudden waves of panic. a pounding heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, or a fear that something terrible is about to happen. Avoidance often grows slowly. You skip a meeting, then a grocery store, then a family gathering. The world gets smaller while the worry feels larger.

Anxiety also overlaps with other conditions. Depression can sit underneath chronic worry. ADHD can make unfinished tasks feel like a threat. Trauma can leave the nervous system scanning for danger. Thyroid problems, caffeine, alcohol withdrawal, and some prescriptions can produce a similar body state. A psychiatric visit is a place to sort those threads rather than to name the first label that fits.

What the visit covers

The initial evaluation is 60 minutes by secure video. Expect questions about when the worry started, what it costs you in time and relationships, how your body reacts, how you sleep, and what you have already tried. therapy, apps, exercise, or prior medications. Your clinician will also ask about safety. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911. SteadyMind is not an emergency service.

Treatment planning is individual. Education about how anxiety works can itself reduce shame. Therapy is often an important part of care even when medication is considered. Medication may be discussed when symptoms are intense, persistent, or getting in the way of daily life, and when it is clinically appropriate. There is no promised prescription at the first visit, and there is no promised specific medicine.

When panic shows up in the body

Panic can convince you that you are having a heart problem even after a medical visit has been reassuring. The body is loud: heat, tremor, nausea, a need to escape. Understanding that panic is a surge of alarm. not a verdict about your character. makes the first psychiatric conversation easier. Your clinician still takes physical symptoms seriously and may encourage coordinated care with your primary doctor when red flags appear. Florida heat, dehydration, and too much caffeine are ordinary amplifiers, not moral failings.

Anxiety does not always sound like “I am anxious.” It may appear as stomach tension, avoidance, poor sleep, or irritability when plans change. Rosemarie can evaluate these adult patterns in English. Adults who prefer Spanish can speak directly with Alexeis without an interpreter. Either way, the goal of the first hour is a shared understanding, not a guaranteed prescription.
